DESCRIPTION:
Lyptus® is a hybrid Eucalyptus species grown in the Amazon Basin in Brazil. Developed and marketed by Weyerhaeuser, Lyptus® is a dense, hard, attractive timber that grows to harvestable maturity in 15 years instead of 50-70 years typical of similar species grown in cooler regions. The trees are grown in large, environmentally-friendly plantations, interspersed with indigenous timber to preserve the correct biodiversity of the region.
Lyptus® machines well with only slight dulling effect on cutters. It takes finishes well, glues easily, and holds nails and screws very well. It does not corrode metals or become stained in contact with metals. As with other Eucalyptus species, Lyptus® is somewhat prone to twisting and warping, but because of the way it is grown, in dense stands, with lower branches removed, the grain of the commercial timber is comparatively very straight.
Lyptus® is available as lumber, veneer and flooring.
